What does Citizenship mean to you?
The
simple message behind these posters from a primary school
in Plymouth is timeless, but each generation has to learn
it anew, it seems.
The pupils discussed issues to do with citizenship and world
peace on the World Ecitizens primary forum, and then worked
on posters, some of which we have published on the site.
For those who are interested in the technology used, the
pupils produced these originally in Publisher, but they have
been converted to web pages so that visitors can read them
as well.
Over to you ...
A forum is a good vehicle for pupils to discuss ideas. The
teacher or leader should spark off the conversation, and intervene
to steer it at various points. Pupils should be encouraged
to access the forum away from school as well as in formal
lessons, and to feel ownership of their forum - this will
help ensure that unsuitable messages aren't posted. There
is a different kind of forum possible on the main MirandaNet
site, where it is also possible to have private and separate
discussions which can be monitored by the teacher or leader
- It's useful to have someone who administers the forum, receiving
email copies of all messages that are posted, so that a kindly
eye can be kept on the discussions, and steers given when
necessary.
Publisher is a very easy way for pupils to produce posters
quickly. Not all schools have Publisher, and PowerPoint is
a useful alternative which has been used successfully in many
schools.
