Mosaic Workshop

A key arts venture was the funding for the Mosaic Workshops that were held in Southend-on-Sea by one of the World Ecitizen members, Mara Chrystie. This was the Awards for All grants that was predicated on providing opportunities for creative activities to local people that are to be linked to the WE website in 2009. The workshops were launched by Christina Preston in July 2007 and were led by expert mosaic artist Norma Vondee.

Mara co-ordinates a Southend community group ACE (Arts and Citizenship in Education) network. ACE network, like WE, aims to encourage active citizenship and to build bridges between communities. The workshops involve children from Westborough Primary School, Lancaster Special School and the local Mosque class. The completed mosaics were presented by the children to the children’s ward of Southend-on-Sea Hospital.
