The visit went extremely well with a fantastic response
from students and some teachers. The Principal is supportive
and enthusiastic to ensure ICT use within the school. The
students' attitudes to learning with ICT were excellent and
many students from all ability ranges both enjoyed the idea
of focused project work using ICT and using new digital equipment.
A highlight of the week was an out of hours school bus trip
to meet three students at their village, which consisted of
SDP housing. The students were proud to show us and make a
mini documentary of their world within this village and this
was contrasted by some of the others students use of ICT with
home computers and digital equipment.
Two particular teachers were passionate about the use of
ICT in their classrooms and the week consisted of many conversations
with them about possible shared projects and questions about
how ICT could be approached across the school. Many students
put extra effort into the Sites and Sounds project and the
over arching feedback from them was that they were all ‘Proudly
South African’.
Meetings with the SMT set foundations of further planning
and a strong partnership was built up with target teachers
learners and adviser.
A tentative date has been set up with one teacher to trial
some web cam work with the UK in the coming months and email
communication will also take place.
The school has many attributes that enable it to soon become
a centre of excellence of ICT practice in Free State
